You Write the Post

Okay, folks. I'm counting this as one of my 30 posts in 30 days, but I want you to write it for me. I've been blogging for a little over a month now, and I've gotten a lot of viewers. I'm not sure at this point what my readers want. So leave me a comment and tell me.

  • Which was your favorite post?
  • What would you like to have more of?
  • Is there anything you actively dislike about the blog?
  • And one more thing. I've got a lot more readers than I have commenters, so let me know why you don't comment. Is it just because you never comment on blogs, or am I not giving you enough to comment about? Or is it something else.

I'm looking for help and constructive criticism here because I really want this blog to be something people enjoy reading. Help me out, dear friends. I need you here.

Thanks!

  1. Well basically, I don't comment on most things that I read. But I think that I should start because, I can see how knowing that I have readers but no comments would be frustrating.
I enjoyed your posts, I think on Xanga, that were about your students. They were a hoot to read.

  2. The semi-disastrous honeymoon post was my favorite. I love to read awful travel stories. :) I can't think of any specific suggestions. I would comment more, but I'm usually reading on my phone and sometimes the Comment button won't cooperate.

  3. Thanks, Alisa and Danae. This is really helpful. More students and travel disasters. Or disasters with traveling students. Got it!

  4. I've been thinking about the same thing for a while now. I think most people read quickly and happily, but only comment when something has personal resonance. I especially liked your posts about your boy moving out and about the princess. I commented on one, but not the other. Why? I felt like I had some connection to the former but am still only anticipating the latter.

I'm new too - but I think it's helpful to have short, funny (or otherwise striking) posts that come just about daily. (Which is a worst case scenario for a working writer who should be spending her time on her work-in-progress.)

  5. Change the color scheme a little, I can't read the light purple links on the green.

Blog more about me. People LOVE me.

  6. I agree about the color of the links....

  7. I particularly enjoy the personal stories - like the one about your honeymoon, or ones about your kids or grandkids. Funny quotes are good, too.

I haven't commented before primarily because it appeared I had to create an account of some sort in order to do so, which is not entirely true (as I just discovered).

  8. Rachel, I'm glad you figured out a way to post. I appreciate your comments. I'm trying to figure out which way this blog should go, and hearing from the people who are reading is really important.

  9. The taunting between your daughter and you are hilarious as was the tragic yet somehow hilarious honeymoon story. Love the question/answer for English questions. Fun stuff! Life experiences and writing about them I find interesting to read personally! (With the occasional tabloid format blog posting about your daughter and the intellectual combat) :~)

  10. I like to read about the students, and want to see more about your son, or your sister. She sounds interesting. Enough about the daughter already!

  11. Jason, thanks for your help. I've kind of let the English pop quizzes go by the way side, but I'll bring them back. I thought they were fun, but then again, I thought majoring in English was fun.
And all of Alyssa's hilarity and wit? She inherited from me.

  12. Chris, I'll try and find some humor in my classroom as soon as my Paxil kicks in. As for the sister? Eh. She's okay as long as she keeps away from the English teacher posts; then she just hysterical and irrational. ;-)

  13. I really love the banter between you and Alyssa. It makes me wish my mom blogged (which would be funny for very different reasons).

I love the stories about your students and the Princess. I also enjoy the pop quizzes, they either make me feel really smart or really stupid. (For some reason this appeals to me.)

I think you should keep on keeping on. You are doing great and I enjoy reading. I don't always comment because I'm usually a week behind on the blogs I read (hence why I'm commenting on the 16th when you wrote this on the 11th!) so I feel like it's too late to comment on a lot of things. That's not specific to your blog, I do it with everyone.

  14. Thanks for the comments momnextdoor. Every little bit of advice helps, and I certainly appreciate the encouragement. I know what you mean about getting behind on the blogs. I'm the same way. This NaBloPoMo has me so busy finding things to write, I don't have time to read!
